Authentic Inclusion Starts With Products That Truly Serve the Community
Curlology Curl Academy evaluates and recommends brands whose products deliver real results for textured hair, especially the coily and kinky textures that are often overlooked in product development.
If your products genuinely work, we want to validate that and connect you with the community that needs them.

A Curlology recommendation helps your products stand out in a space where trust is everything.
It signals that your formulas support textured hair with integrity, that they perform in real‑world conditions, and that professionals can rely on them behind the chair. This kind of validation strengthens your positioning in a category where buyers are discerning and deeply informed.
Real Expertise
Our credibility comes from years of textured-hair education and lived experience. When we recommend a product, people trust it because they trust the depth behind our work.
Intentional Selectivity
We assess whether brands demonstrate genuine understanding of and respect for textured hair culture, history, and community. Authenticity matters. Performative inclusion is easy to spot.
A Full-Spectrum Perspective
We work closely with consumers, professionals, schools, and industry partners. This gives us a 360° understanding of how products perform in real life, not just in theory.
Impact That Goes Beyond Visibility
We evaluate how products perform on textured hair, moisture, definition, frizz control, and scalp health.
Our insights show brands how their products actually feel and function in real life.
Values-Aligned Leadership
Partnering with Curology signals thoughtful, informed participation in textured-hair care.
It positions your brand as intentional and committed to meaningful progress.
Honest, Supportive Evaluation
We offer clear, respectful feedback. If a product is ready, we champion it. If it needs refinement, we say so with care.
Our goal is to uplift offerings that truly serve textured-hair consumers.
You can’t earn trust in the textured hair space without serving real inclusivity.
The beauty industry has historically underserved people with textured hair. Products tested primarily on straighter textures and marketed as "for all hair types." Formulations that work well on some textures but not on coily, kinky, and tightly curled hair. Marketing that looks inclusive but doesn't always deliver inclusive results.
The result? Consumers, particularly Black consumers and people with Type 3-4 hair, have learned to be skeptical. The community has experienced enough disappointment to earn that skepticism.
That's where Curlology comes in.
We serve as an independent evaluator, testing products rigorously on textured hair and providing honest guidance to consumers and professionals.

What Authentic Inclusion Costs.
Investing in textured hair inclusion requires intention, but avoiding the work often becomes far more expensive.
When efforts feel misaligned or superficial, brands face reputational strain, declining trust, and missed opportunities in one of beauty's fastest-growing categories.
These challenges show up as:
Lost market share to more credible competitors.
Internal misalignment when values and actions don't match.
The long-term cost of rebuilding trust once it's been damaged.
Missed growth in a category that rewards authenticity
Breanna has done so much for our brand! She has developed our curriculum, educated our community on some of our biggest stages, and is the top as an educator. She’s leading the way and creating something extremely impactful and dear to our brand. Our gratitude to her is huge!

We choose our partners carefully.
We evaluate every product carefully. Not every product earns approval, and that's intentional.
The textured hair community, particularly Black consumers and people with Type 3-4 hair, have experienced enough product disappointment to be rightfully skeptical. Our selectivity protects this community and ensures our recommendations carry weight.
We maintain high standards because trust is earned, not given. Here’s how you can partner with us.
Initial Consultation
We start by understanding your products, goals, current positioning, and partnership vision. This helps us determine alignment between what you need and what we can offer.
Values Alignment
We assess your commitment to inclusive beauty through actions, not just statements. This conversation helps us understand your readiness for thoughtful participation in textured hair care.
Product Evaluation
We conduct rigorous testing of your products on diverse textured hair. This includes professional feedback, consumer experience, and ingredient analysis.
Evaluation Results
We provide honest assessment of all products. Those that meet our standards earn Curology approval and get recommended to our community. Those that don't meet standards receive clear feedback on performance gaps that can inform future development.
Partnership Development (For Approved Products)
Approved brands can explore expanded partnership opportunities tailored to goals and scope. We develop collaboration that serves the textured hair community authentically.
We take partnership seriously because trust is at the core of everything we do. Our selectivity protects your investment and ensures that collaboration with Curlology truly means something.
Meet the Founder: Why Curlology exists.
I've been the consumer with a bathroom full of expensive failures-products that promised to work for “all hair types” but clearly weren’t tested on hair like mine. As a Black woman with Type 4 coils, I’ve lived the frustration of not knowing which products to trust.
That’s why Curlology evaluates products. Someone needs to test them thoroughly on the textures that have been historically overlooked and tell the truth about what works and what doesn’t. The textured hair community deserves honesty, not marketing.
I’m not here to help brands market their way into credibility. I’m here to identify which products genuinely perform. If they work, we validate them. If they don’t, we say so because that honesty is what builds real trust and helps brands committed to doing better.
Consumers are demanding more than products: they're demanding brands with integrity. Communities are supporting brands that create real change, not performative gestures.
You can lead this evolution or be disrupted by it.
Partnership with Curlology isn't about checking a diversity box. It's about genuinely committing to inclusive beauty through education, empowerment, and authentic action.
-
A: Authenticity isn't about appearance, it's about action. Partnership with Curlology is authentic because we do real work together: improving products, educating professionals, empowering consumers. The textured community recognizes authentic commitment through sustained action, not marketing claims.
-
A: Partnership with Curlology actually reduces this risk because we provide cultural competence, community connection, and accountability. We help you navigate sensitively while creating genuine value. Our involvement signals you're doing the work with guidance from trusted community leaders.
-
A: We track tangible metrics: sales in diverse segments, brand perception shifts, customer acquisition and retention, professional adoption rates, net promoter scores, market share, and more. We also help you value intangible benefits like brand equity, reputation, and long-term positioning.
-
A: Authentic inclusion isn't a race, it's a commitment. Being "late" but genuine beats being "early" but performative. Consumers reward brands that demonstrate real commitment regardless of timing. Partnership with Curlology differentiates through depth and authenticity.
-
A: Varies by partnership scope. Some partnerships are primarily sponsorship with modest investment. Others require significant organizational commitment and resources. We'll discuss what makes sense for your goals and readiness during consultation.
-
A: Very. We've turned down brands with large budgets because values didn't align. We've refused partnerships that would be performative. Our community trust is our most valuable asset and we won't compromise it for any partnership revenue. That selectivity is what makes partnership with us meaningful.
-
A: We recommend minimum 1-year commitments because authentic impact takes time. Many partnerships are 3-5 years with evolution over time. We're interested in long-term relationships, not one-off campaigns.
