The beauty industry has historically underserved people with textured hair. Products tested primarily on straighter textures and marketed as "for all hair types." Formulations that work well on some textures but not on coily, kinky, and tightly curled hair. Marketing that looks inclusive but doesn't always deliver inclusive results.

The result? Consumers, particularly Black consumers and people with Type 3-4 hair, have learned to be skeptical. The community has experienced enough disappointment to earn that skepticism.
